Design Desires and Realities

Every client has a particular set of aspirations and expectations as to how they want their property developed. Our primary goal is to craft a design solution that fulfills those functional and aesthetic needs. Since the design process is always constrained by financial, physical and political realities, it's our responsibility to explain what is possible and what is not. Working together in a candid and truthful manner we almost always achieve a result that satisfies our clients' needs, without sacrificing their dreams.

The Design Process

We personally interview all clients, assessing their needs and budgetary requirements. A preliminary design proposal is then developed based upon that information. If this plan meets with the client's approval the design process begins in earnest. We first craft a detailed design plan addressing all necessary elements. A general contractor may be brought aboard. Permits or Co-op Board approval are applied for and materials purchased. Structural, legal or regulatory problems are addressed as they crop up and are promptly communicated to the client. Any required changes to the original design plans are fully discussed with and approved by the client prior to implementation.

We work closely with contractor through completion of each project. A sensible and convenient maintenance schedule is then typically developed with the client for all plantings. We can also develop a "seasonal" planting schedule to insure color throughout the growing seasons.
